South African Texas Transfers/Namyats
Namyats is Stayman spelled backwards
These are used as both openings and in response to partner's notrump opening.
The basic system:
4C transfers to 4H
4D transfers to 4S
Many players prefer not to use this system over notrump, reserving 4C as Gerber.
The principle difference between the transfers and natural preempt type bids is the strength of the hand.
A Namyat transfer shows a strong hand with 8 1/2 sure tricks or better. Responder typically accept the transfer by
bidding four of the major, but may also bid the next higher suit or 4NT as a slam try.
